Syllabus Sewing Course, 4-H Cherokee Co, SC
Comments
Providing a dyed-in-the-wool syllabus is not presently in the cards. The pace of the course will be flexible, and some may have more time than others to finish a project and begin another. At this time, the type and number of equipment available is uncertain as are tools and notions. Deviating from the course may be desirable for Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas projects.
Course Projects
First, is will be necessary to become familiar with the sewing machine, its operations, cleaning, and the numerous tools that will used. Safety will be stressed when use of new tools is explained, demonstrated, and practiced. Not all machine operations will be discussed early on as it is all available on the www. However, the rudiments necessary to sew a 2.5mm straight stitch will be taught.
A sloper is a test sew/fit garment sewn from inexpensive woven fabric with wearing ease, and may not be sewn in every detail. For instance a seamstress, accomplished with sewing bodice linings, may choose to not sew a lining when constructing a new sloper.
New vocabulary will be provided as necessary, and new tools will be introduced, explained, demonstrated, and practice allowed before requiring their use.
