Image #1. Cut two 10″X10″ fabric squares and two 9.75″x9.75″ battings squares.
Image #2. Place a fabric right side down and place a batting on top, aligning all edges equidistant from edges of fabric. Absolute symmetry of the spaces around the edges is not necessary. Pin together at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock. Draw diagonals lines from corners to corners. Stitch on the lines. I usually begin the seam in 1/4″ from a corner tip, stitch forward a few and backstitch a few. At the other end of the line, I stop 1/4″ from corner and backstitch a few. Complete process on other fabric.
Image #3. Fold in half, cli, mark a dart w/ pencil. Rotate 180 degrees, mark opposing dart.
Image #4. Seam darts, trim 1/4″ seam allowance. Repeat image 3 and 4 for other side, then other cotton/batting rectangle.
Image #5. A cotton/batting rectangle, all 4 darts sewn and trimmed.
Image #6. The cotton/batting rectangles, Right sides together, seam around 1 cm leaving opening for turning. I leave an opening approximately 3/4″-1″ to right of am aligned pair of dart seams to 3/4″-1″ to the left of of a corner that is to the right of the aligned dart seam. Turn RS out, align opening to cozy edge, clip opening, top stitch around 3/16″-1/8″.
Image #7. Finished bowl cozy, which includes a tack stitch in the center 3/4″-1″ long. The tack prevents the halves from separating as the cozy is laundered.
