- Ease – the planned difference of a patterns measurements and the measurements of the finished garment. Example: a pattern for a woven skirt is sized for a 30″ waist, and the finished waist measures 34″. The ease of these measurement is +4″, which allows for movement. The ease of a knit or stretchy athletic fabric may be negative: a pattern waist size of 30″ may finish at 28″, allowing a fitting that contours exactly to the body and allows movement.
- Seam Allowance – the distance from a seam to the edge of the fabric. Usually specified in the pattern instructions. Normally 5/8″ for wovens, 3/8″ for jerseys, knits, stretchy.
